Thank You

This blog, Beyond the Seas: Caribbean-American History, is dedicated to the people who have shaped my journey, expanded my mind, and inspired me to tell the stories that matter.

To my friends from Canada, Florida, and The Bahamas—thank you for helping me understand history and culture on a deeper, more personal level. Your support and shared experiences opened my eyes to new perspectives and helped me see the power of diverse narratives.

To Kevin Clarke, my high school dean—your constant encouragement, your unwavering support, and your belief in me when I doubted myself meant the world. You reminded me that I could be anyone I wanted to be, no matter the odds.

To Emile Ndekezi—thank you for instilling in me a love for the social sciences, especially history. Your passion lit a spark in me that has fueled my academic path ever since and completely transformed my life. Thank you for always being willing to critique my work and give advice even after no longer being under your study.

To Kristin Farnsworth, Dr. Peter McNamara, and Dr. Daniel Gilfillan—thank you for working so closely with me on the creation of this blog and for being an integral part of my story at Arizona State University. Your mentorship and support have helped me bring this vision to life.

To my family—thank you for being my constant. To my sisters, thank you for reading every paper I send your way and always answering when I need help (or just thirty dollars for Uber Eats). And to my parents, thank you for always allowing me to pursue my heart’s desires in every area of life. You worked tirelessly, sometimes going without, to ensure we had everything we needed. Watching you build your brand from $100 and a dream into what it is today inspires me every day. You are the proof that anything is possible with hard work, faith, and a solid support system.

This blog is for all of you. Thank you for helping me find my voice and my purpose.
